Instructions After In Office Whitening
• Mild sensitivity to hot or cold liquids may occur. This usually passes within 1 – 2 days. If sensitivity persists, we recommend taking over the counter pain medication. We recommend combining two Ibuprofen (such as Motrin) with two Acetaminophen (such as Tylenol). Switch your toothpaste to Sensodyne toothpaste for a few days and the sensitivity will go away.
• Immediate whitening results can be quite dramatic due to minor dehydration of your teeth. It is normal for the color to tone down somewhat after treatment when your teeth re-hydrate to a natural white tone.
• For the next 2 weeks, avoid dark staining substances as: coffee/tea, soy sauce, red wine, berries, tobacco, red sauces (pasta sauce, ketchup), soda
• Long term results vary from patient to patient. This can depend on the original shade of your teeth and include habits such as smoking or drinking colored beverages.
• Touch-up treatments may be needed in the future to retain color.
• You are being sent home with a tube of relief gel that is for calming sensitivity.
• More whitening gel can be purchased as needed.
• Do not be alarmed: existing fillings, crowns, bonding will not whiten. Therefore, these may need to be changed in order to match your new smile if you wish to do so.
